This works alright. The only reason I bought it was because I needed a grinder with the smaller arbor size. It is doing it's job but it heats up quickly and bogs down very easily. If I was to buy another one I would look for another brand.

I have many sanders of all sorts, most of them are fairly large and while they cover the vast range of my sanding needs I still needed something both small and aggressive. Enter the Proxxon long neck grinder. This little tool turned out to be ideal for my needs, I bought some 100 and 150 grit flap discs as well as a coarse carbide carving disc. These do a great job of removing material efficiently with great control. You can apply a very delicate touch and remove just the right amount without too much fear of ripping your project to shreds, use the course carbide disc and let loose for quick stock removal. Obviously if you were working on big projects and needed some real heavy removal, then a 4" grinder would be the better choice. For gentle shaping and smoothing, this thing rocks!
I've used it on pieces as small as 1" square to contour the surface and on the lathe to do some final shaping or reshaping with various woods and phenolic sheet. It does a nice job with all of it. The variable speed is also very cool for added control. I don't find it particularly noisy, especially compared to some of my other sanders. It's slim shape and light weight make it extremely comfortable to use. The lack of mass means it doesn't try to torque itself out of position as you move it about. It's the perfect mini grinder.

Very nice tool, efficient, etc.
It is also a very noisy tool----surpsingly noisy for its small size.
I assume this noise level is normal for the tool,and not an indication that something is wrong with it.
